Canadian, Heidi and Scottish Sam were married at the beautiful castle ruins of Dunnottar Castle, with an Indie Rock wedding reception at Musa Restaurant in Aberdeen.
This lovely couple were very hands-on in the planning of their wedding, with Graphic Designer, Heidi, custom making all their print work and them setting the style and feel of their special day from start to finish.
For the ceremony, they selected the iconic castle ruins at Dunnottar Castle for the backdrop of their beautiful ceremony. A ruined cliff top fortress located in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire; steeped in history and one of the most romantic locations in Scotland.
This incredibly fun and vibrant couple threaded their love of music through their wedding day from start to finish, with beautiful Heidi walking down the aisle to the Stone Roses, “This Is The One”.
Although on the day the castle was thick with a sea fog, this cleared over the course of the ceremony, led by humanist celebrant, Stella Potter. The fog itself gave a really haunting, romantic feel to the wedding ceremony, which was beautifully photographed by Paul Mackie who really captured the rustic beauty of the day.
The ceremony setup was rustic, vintage, with furniture hired in from Virginia’s Vintage Hire , including rustic church benches, barrels and mismatched vintage chairs. The simple but beautiful flowers were provided by Jill of Hays Flowers
Heidi and the bridesmaid’s arrived in style in a vintage VW van, hired from Highland Hobo and the wedding guests were transported by coach service to and from Aberdeen for the ceremony.
Due to the fact that Heidi was still based in Canada, not yet resident in Scotland, they were assisted along the way in their planning with support from Wedding Planners, Weddings by Sara Jane; who were on hand to assist locally as needed and also to manage the setup and coordination on the day itself.
Groom Sam said, ““Sara Jane was an integral part of our wedding day. It wouldn’t have been as seamless without her. Because if the different locations for our ceremony and reception, her logistical planning and coordination was crucial and everything happened on time and as planned. The set up of the outdoor ceremony was perfect, exactly how we described. When I walked into the venue, I was blown away how our vision was brought to life by Sara and Susan. All of the little details were perfect”
Sara and Susan loved working with Sam and Heidi, who were infectious in their enthusiasm and a lot of fun along the way! We loved the way that this gorgeous couple made their day their own, designing every part of it to reflect their personalities and unique style.
Bride Heidi Said; ““We knew we wanted to have someone oversee the wedding day to keep it stress free for us. We were pointed towards Sara by our venue but I also found her online and she was my top choice. The Day Of Coordination Package was exactly what we were looking for. As a designer myself, I did a lot of the stationary and decor myself, but Sara was there to guide me for things like cake and flowers where I had to hire someone else. The suppliers she hooked us up with were great. Although she is a busy professional, Sara was always available and thorough when contacted and made us feel like the most important couple.”
This couple didn’t let the administration or planning of the wedding get them stressed, and all the day through they were just so happy to be getting married, and their positivity and happy outlook was a delight to be around.
After their beautiful ceremony, Heidi and Sam and their guests were bussed into central Aberdeen for their Indie Rock Style wedding reception at the very unique Musa Restaurant. Everything about this venue suited this gorgeous couple to a tee and they really made it their own, threading together an Indie vibe with nods to Heidi’s Canadian Roots.
Heidi and Sam snuck off before their reception to have a drink in the pub next door to the venue with Heidi in wedding dress to the delight of the locals before joining their guests for the big party.
The decor at Musa was the perfect fit for Heidi and Sam’s style, with Heidi adding personal touches to the bright, contemporary rock style decor.
The seating chart was a map of Canada, and Heidi did an incredible job sourcing custom made licence plates to serve as table numbers. She designed all the print work herself, which was absolutely stunning on the day.
The guests danced the night away to the wonderful sounds of local band, the Sellouts, and enjoyed the late licence available at this funky, city venue.
We absolutely loved the way this beautiful couple made their wedding day truly their own and didn’t get caught up in following a pre-set rule book. Everything they chose was to suit them and their own personalities and resulted in a celebration that was uniquely them.
